REVIEW: Gurgulator - Risen from the Slime
Straight Outta the UK, the birth place of some of my favorite bands all time; Carcass and Napalm Death to name a few. Gurgulator are a 1 man gore-grind project that is everything I absolutely love about heavy music.
I'd say one of my favorite sub-genre's of death metal is Carcass Worship. My favorite band list would be something like; Carcass, Impaled, Exhumed, Haemorrhage, General Surgery, Splatterhouse etc etc, you get it. Gurgulator fit perfectly, because they've got bits and pieces of all these incredible bands, and this release truly reeks of everything that makaes Carcass and early Razor Back Records bands so killer.
'The Grotesque Have Arrived' starts things off nice - a 1:33 warmup intro before you're absolutely pummeled by the rest of this album. Once the second track 'Collapsed, Rotten & Vile hits, you better hold onto your seat, and get ready to white knuckle because this album slams on the gas, and refuses to let up.
Track 3 is where the Impaled and Exhumed notes particularly started to hit me. Impaled for SURE. There's an incredibly sick solo over an incredibly sick rhythm section in this song that Impaled WISHED they wrote - it almost sounds so close you'd bet a member of the band was a guest guitarist, but it's just how sick this band is.
Where as track 3 is big Impaled vibes, the Carcass and Exhumed notes start showing themselves big time in 'Rancid Bulbous Mess', and in this track we get some switch up with the vocals - more highs start to be sprinkled throughout here, each track sort of offering you a little something extra to keep you busy and intrigued.
Honestly I'd keep highlighting songs, but I'd be here highlighting them all.. It's almost like every track is better than the last in a sense. On top of the killer logo, art, production, musicianship, you're going to have fun picking out the influences that Gurgulator show proudly, and professionally as all hell. This is a great listen for any goregrind fan, for any Carcass fan, and I couldn't recommend it enough.
It's available now in limited quantities on yellow cassette. Get it now!
